Grimm, who taught himself to play guitar and write music at an early age, was named the Christian Country Music Association’s “Star of Tomorrow” at the age of 16 for his hit song, “John Wayne and Jesus”. He was presented the award in 1997 at the Ryman Auditorium, the home of the “Grand Ole Opry” which was recently damaged by the floods in Nashville.
At the age of 5, Grimm began attending his Grandparents’ church where his Grandmother played the piano and his Great Grandfather preached. It was there that Grimm turned to Christian Music and later combining it with the Country Music that his Grandparents loved.
When Grimm was 12 years old, his Grandmother recognized his talent and soon began taking him around to the bars throughout Southern Mississippi where he performed the music of country favorites like George Jones, Travis Tritt and more. It was then that Grimm’s career began to take off, and at the age of 16, signed his first recording contract and headed to Nashville.
But things didn’t work out in Nashville as he expected and Grimm soon returned home to South Mississippi. It was during the two years that followed that Grimm began performing Country Music, again, and soon discovered Soul Music and the Blues. Once he heard such greats as Otis Redding, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, he never looked back. The music felt so natural that Grimm quickly became a soul artist without even realizing it.
In 2000, Grimm was performing Soul on the Mississippi Gulf Coast when some people from Las Vegas heard him perform and were impressed. He soon moved to Vegas, made several albums, and now performs at venues throughout Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, with headliners such as Heart, Tom Petty, BB King, the Doobie Brothers and others. Grimm also performs regularly at Mandalay’s House of Blues in Vegas. |
