Silver Slipper Casino Employees Give More Than Time
Hancock County – February 2, 2012 – When a fellow employee was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, Silver Slipper Casino employees Angie Kothmann, Kendra McArthur and Danielle Strong became involved in The Pink Heart Funds Ministry and Outreach. Pink Hearts, a Mississippi Gulf Coast non-profit organization, provides free wigs for cancer patients who have undergone chemotherapy and to those suffering from alopecia or any other debilitating cause for hair loss. The organization also provides breast prostheses to those who have had lumpectomies or mastectomies. All donations stay in Mississippi providing services, at no charge, for those who don’t have sufficient insurance coverage or are unable to afford the purchase of wigs or breast prostheses.
“When she was diagnosed with cancer, we decided that we had to do something, not only to help her but others who have been stricken by cancer,” said Strong. So, Kothmann, McArthur and Strong, along with other Silver Slipper Casino Employees and members of the community, participated in the Pink Heart Funds 5K Walk/Run held October 8, 2011 to help raise donations and awareness of the organization.
But McArthur and Kothmann took it one step further. They, each, donated 12 inches of their beautiful long hair to The Pink Heart Funds on January 21st. “It was a no-brainer for us,” said Kothmann. “It was the least we could do for her, as well as others in our community who have been affected by this disease.”
