Things Will Be Rockin’ at the Slipper….Rockin’ Dopsie That Is!

Hancock County – November 19, 2010 – Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters will perform at Silver Slipper Casino, November 26 and 27 at 8:00 at the Slipper’s Stage Bar. Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters, referred to as “Zydeco’s Royal Family”, have performed in many countries throughout the world as well as the United States. “This group is probably THE BEST and most authentic representation of Zydeco music in the world,” stated John N. Ferrucci, COO and General Manager of Silver Slipper Casino. “Their show is dynamic and high energy with audiences dancing long after the music ends.”

Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. began his career at age nine when his accordion playing father, Rockin’ Dopsie Sr., gave him a basic accordion. Like his father, Dopsie Jr. taught himself to play by listening to the radio and playing along. He soon found himself playing with several bands in his teens.

At the age of 21, Dopsie Jr. was given his first rub board, THE musical instrument for authentic Zydeco which also enabled him to run and jump around the stage, dancing like the many top performers that he admired throughout his teens. He soon joined his father’s band, becoming an official member in 1982. The two Dopsies soon began to attract international interest.

However, Dopsie Sr. unexpectantly passed away in 1993. The family vowed to keep his music alive, thus Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and The Zydeco Twisters was formed. The group includes Dopsie Jr.’s brothers, Tiger Dopsie on the drums and Anthony Dopsie who replaced his father on the button accordion, along with several other talented musicians.

Dopsie Jr. is now considered to be THE BEST rub board player in the world, with his charismatic and electrifying performances including dancing, splits, audience participation antics and more. The group has formed with such greats as Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Jimmy Buffet, Cindy Lauper, Bob Dylan and The Neville Brothers, to name a few.

Rockin’ Dopsie and the Zydeco Twisters will perform, both nights, at 8:00 p.m. at Silver  Slipper’s Stage Bar. Admission is free. Attendees and players must be 21 years of age.
