Special Edition “Katrina Bike” on Display at
Silver Slipper Casino for Cruisin’
Hancock County – October 6, 2010 – As part of 2010 Cruisin’ the Coast, the Discovery Channel’s famed “Katrina Bike”, will be on display at Silver Slipper Casino beginning Thursday, October 7 through Saturday, October 9.“When we learned that Ivy would be over with the bike for Cruisin’, it just seemed like a perfect fit for our Rumble on the Gulf Bike event on Thursday and our Cruisin’ events, here at the Slipper,” stated John N. Ferrucci, COO and General Manager for Silver Slipper Casino.
The custom designed “Katrina Bike” was built and featured on the Discovery Channel’s Biker Build-Off series, right after Hurricane Katrina.. Upon being invited to participate, Ivy Trosclair and his son, Ivy III, decided to build a bike in honor of the victims and heroes of Hurricane Katrina. The rules required that the bike be built in 10 days in order to compete for the top title, far less than the three to six months the Trosclairs normally needed for a custom design. However, they pulled it off with the help of friends who donated parts and tools to complete the task, since the Trosclairs lost everything, including their shop and tools, in the storm.
The bike features a stormy paint design with a woman’s eye in the center and hurricane feeder bands along the fuel tank that form a hurricane above the high performance engine. A fleur-de-lis is engraved on the shifter and the seat is made of foam from the Superdome’s roof, which Troslair found on Poydras after the storm.
The Trosclairs have built custom bikes for many bike aficionados including Saints players, Kyle Turley and Chris Naole. The duo’s custom designs have taken top honors and other awards at Daytona Bike Week, the Sturgis Rally, the Las Vegas BikeFest and more.
As part of Cruisin’ the Coast, Silver Slipper Casino will also host “Na Na Sha”, Thursday, October 7th at 7:00 p.m., “Vince Vance and the Valiants”, October 8th at 8:00 p.m. and “Mustang Sally” October 9th at 8:00 p.m. Performances will be on the Slipper’s Original Stage Bar. Admission is free and attendees must be 21 years of age or older.
